Pilates
Pilates is a form of exercise that works the full body. The principles of pilates include FOCUS, BREATH, CONTROL, CENTERING, COORDINATION, RHYTHM, and FLOW which we incorporate into each movement. Pilates can be beneficial in building strength regardless of your age, fitness level, body type, past injuries or illnesses. We are meet you where you are, using a combination of mat and appartus in our pilates sessions to help you meet your needs. The pilates method is a safe and challenging form of exercise that can be practiced 3 to 7 times a week. We recommend some in person sessions combined with the use of our Sweat with Melissa Subscription on our App. With consistent practice, combining mat and appartus along with some cardio and the option of a strength training workout will have you standing taller, feeling stronger and more energenic in all your other daily activities.

What is Apparatus? Reformer, barrels, tower, wunda chair, pedi-pull and more

Testimonials

  • It refocuses my mind and body, and has a calming influence.  Increases my flexibility and strengthens my core (and my hips). I like that the more I focus on my technique the harder the exercises become.  And the instructor is fun too!!!

  • Pilates has given me a greater focus on my core strength and posture! After a class I always feel muscles that don't get worked through cardio or weights and the classes are small, so Melissa can give us great feedback. I love it!
    Eileen Young
  • I’ve been doing Pilates for about 3 years. Pilates helps  keep me mobile and strong so I can keep up to my grandkids! I also find that I have fewer aches and pains from osteoarthritis when I’m doing Pilates regularly.
    Leanne Stewart
  • Deb's Pilates journey started last in 2015.  Why Pilates? "To feel better. To regain my flexibility back. When I started I couldn't even reach my ankles, now I can reach past my toes!!! This is exciting. I have more energy to keep up with my granddaughters and my gardening.  The more I improve at Pilates the more it makes me want to do more."
    Debbie Keay
  • I like Pilates because it works every muscle. I have a stronger core than with any other form of exercise. I'm not a boot camp kinda girl... I find Pilates kinda classy!

  • I love Pilates. It makes me feel graceful and strong. I have practiced it on and off for 14 years. Somehow no matter what I do for exercise it always comes back to Pilates!

  • I've been doing Pilates since 2013. I wish I would have started even earlier. When entering into my 30's and 40's I began noticing more tightness in my body.  I love sleeping on my sides but the pain in my hips and sides became intense. Within 6 months of starting Pilates I was absolutely pain free on my sides and my hip flexers are getting so much better. Pilates helped me to be more aware of my breathing and posture during the day. I rarely get lower back pain because my core has gotten that much stronger. My kids all know not to complain about any aches because I tell them to get on the floor and do some Pilates.

  • After months of back aches and not being able to stand on a soccer field for more than 20 minutes without having to sit. I finally convinced my husband to join me for a Pilates session, even though he made me promise not to tell his guy friends. After 5 sessions he was able to stand for the entire game without pulling out his lawn chair and the complaining of back pain has come to an end. ;) He even promotes it to his buddies that have similar ailments! Melissa has been our personal trainer and Pilates instructor for over a year now. Pilates and working out go hand in hand without stretching out all the kinks on the Monday there is no way we can make it through the hour long workout on Thursday. Thank you Melissa for making us stronger and showing us the power of Pilates.

  • I became convinced of the healing power of reformer pilates after a back injury that took away my ability to be active.  I have been working with Melissa consistently for a year and a half.  Although I've only done one class a week, the difference in my quality of life has been remarkable.  Pilates leaves you with immediate pain relief as it can stretch your body in ways that are impossible to achieve through traditional stretches.  At the same time, it strengthens you body to slowly correct the imbalances that underlie your habitual pain. Melissa is a fantastic instructor.  Most of the classes I have taken are one to one or in pairs so the level of attention makes for a personalized class.  She conducted diagnostics on my body when I first attended to spot the cause of my issues.  Every since, her classes have helped to correct and strengthen.  Oh, BTW, she's really nice, a lot fun and very knowledgeable.  B Pilates is a real hidden gem in Maple Ridge.  I highly recommend you taking classes with Melissa.
