I do Pilates and I’m happy to be here to tell you about some other amazing people who are too.
I’m so excited that Stacey was willing to share her Pilates story all of you. Stacey and her husband Derek started their journey together early this year. Stacey coming 2 and sometimes 3 times a week, she even found a Pilates class to attend when she was away on vacation, so that should wouldn’t miss.
Stacey has mentioned several times that Pilates has changed her life. Here’s what she had to say:
I was never very sporty or active as a child or young adult, was even less so after being diagnosed with rheumatoid arthritis at 21. There have been times where my disease has been somewhat controlled and times where I’ve been hospitalized and unable to walk or care for myself.
I’ve tried various types of exercise through the years from yoga to joining a gym and I’ve always managed to hurt myself and/or trigger a flare-up. This has made me fearful of exercise.
I started Pilates in January after my doctor recommended it. She was concerned with my lack of muscle mass and how that would affect me as I age. I started with trepidation (even bringing Derek for moral support) and 7 months later,
I love it. It’s challenging but gentle on my joints and I am stronger and in better shape than I was at 20.
I am actually hopeful and confident that my body will let me do the things Derek and I want to do, travel-wise, etc., as we get older and retire.
One day I’d love to feel confident to go to a retreat or conference.
Age: 47
Favourite piece of equipment: tower
Least favourite piece of equipment: magic circle (I swear, I’ll be the reason someone loses an eye.)
Least favourite exercise: long stretch on reformer (I always feel I’ll fall on my face and my wrists are weak.)
Favourite exercise: Short Spine (It feels so good!)
Stacey is rocking her Pilates practice, making gains and improving on exercises each and every time she attends a session. She claims to be uncoordinated but that is not the truth. She is a skilled mover, who brings focus and concentration to class, as well as laughter and the odd muffled swear word. It is so touching to hear Stacey say that Pilates has changed her life. I’m so grateful to get to be a part of her journey and I plan to be at that conference or retreat that she attends!
