If you live in the city, everything is (literally) at your fingertips. All you have to do is type “Pilates near me” into you phone, and you’ll have several studios to choose from. A friend of mine works in Los Angeles, and there are seven Pilates studios on her street alone. Where I live, we are lucky to have a lot of choices when it comes to where we want to work out, but there are still challenges.
We recently had a quick snowfall that shut almost everything down for a full day, and kept most people stuck at home. Then the news reported that the other side of the country was hit by a blizzard where they got 93cm of snow in twenty-four hours. Snow days can be a fun weather-ordered break from routine (and your workout), but it got me thinking about people who are isolated by location. In fact, this topic has come up several times for me over the past few months.
Small Town Living
For people in smaller towns, the fitness experience is very different; you might be lucky to have a recreation centre, let alone several gyms or fitness studios to choose from. We have a LOT of small towns across British Columbia and Canada, and typing in “Pilates near me” might mean a two hour drive to class.
In the summer, I had the pleasure of teaching a client’s family members, who had travelled down to Maple Ridge from Northern BC. As active people who enjoyed trail running, they loved joining her for class. They were looking for something new, and the one yoga studio in their town just wasn’t their thing. They joked that I should travel up there once a week to teach Pilates.
Then, I was talking with a relative whose daughter lives in a small town. She would have to drive 45 minutes each way to attend any kind of fitness class. Taking a class is now a half-day adventure, which doesn’t fit into most people’s schedules. It’s not very useful for regular workouts, either.
A Better Home Workout Is Here
I’ve created a solution for those who can’t get to a Pilates studio or gym regularly. The b.PILATES & FITNESS App gives you an increasing library of thirty-minute mat classes and home workouts taught by me. All you have to do is follow along; no commuting, no expensive equipment. With a yoga mat, a few dumbbells, and resistance bands, you are all set. You can find all these items at good prices items on Amazon, or at Superstore or Walmart.
Many home fitness programs circle you through the same handful of lessons over and over, are too advanced, or are too long. Each week, I upload a NEW mat class or workout, giving you a growing selection of quick workouts. Plus, I give you variations so you can decrease or increase the intensity to suit your fitness level. After all, Pilates is for everyone – no matter where you live.
Try the b.PILATES & FITNESS App FREE for seven days. At just $15 a month after that, the App makes it easy to create a fitness routine you can afford to love.
