I have been a fitness instructor for decades now. Not many people can say they have had the same job for twenty-plus years and still love it – but I do! Every day I go to work and get to share my love for something with others, but that isn’t the only reason why I teach Pilates & Fitness.
5 Reasons Why I Teach
1. I started teaching aerobics, spin classes, and other group fitness classes because I had fun attending them.
2. I teach Pilates because it amazes me. It challenges my body and mind. It makes me think about how my body moves and works.
3. I do personal training because I love how I feel when I accomplish difficult exercises, whether with heavy weights, challenging movement patterns, or it pushes my cardio. I LOVE feeling the burn and that “good” muscle ache after.
4. I volunteer as a run leader for half marathon training and trail running because I enjoy the feeling of accomplishment after I participate in a race.
I do my job because I love doing the very things that I am teaching – but that isn’t the biggest reason that I do what I do. My big secret?
5. I get excited when those I teach learn to love Pilates and fitness, too! When I see someone make a connection with how their body is moving, or when they come to class eager to try something new, I leap with joy inside. I feel like I am helping my clients unlock the secret to feeling and living better.
Sharing is Caring
Fitness has given me so much over the course of my life that I want others to experience it as well; and through teaching, I get to do that.
I like to share Pilates with my clients because I know how much it changed my awareness of all the other fitness modalities I take part in. Before Pilates, I didn’t notice:
- How much I hunched over on the spin bike
- My poor and imbalanced ankle flexion
- How weak my left leg was compared to my right
I also come back to strength training over and over again because I feel that it builds muscle mass more than Pilates can. Thanks to functional strength training, I can run, ride, hike, and spin further and faster. It also satisfies my need for competition when I can get through a full HIIT class and achieve the hardest exercises.
After trying so many forms of exercise, I’ve learned that with a solid combination of Pilates and functional strength training I can do all of the other things I love better. Yes, I am faster and stronger, but my day-to-day life is better, too. I have fewer aches and pains, I bounce back from little injuries faster, and heck – I am happier!
Just like Pilates and strength training work together to improve my other activities, I’m here to help you do the things you love better, too. If you are feeling you could use a “tune up” for your daily activities, let’s talk about the best way to get you there.
