I love my job in fitness! The energy, competition, and conversation bring me so much joy. So you might be wondering why I created my app, Sweat with Melissa, when I can’t be with you in person. With everything I do, you know I have a bunch of reasons, and the two biggest ones are about finding a way to help you help yourself.
An Athlete’s Perspective
When you love a certain sport, you take training seriously – and it’s a huge commitment. I’m a marathoner and half marathoner, and I also love to ride my bike (I’ve trained for 120+ km rides!). I want to do my best every time I race and can get competitive in my training, so I understand the time and dedication required to train for big events, and know too well of the aches and pains that show up from intense training.
From my education, training, and career in teaching Pilates and personal training, I also know how to avoid the pain. In order to run faster, feel stronger, and avoid injury, I have to drink plenty of water, sleep well, eat healthy, and keep up with my Pilates and strength training.
Combining race training and Pilates and strength training can be a LOT.
Even as someone whose life is fitness finds it hectic to add more to my schedule. So being able to do a workout at home is such a blessing. I don’t need to show up for a class at a specific time, and I don’t need to drive to the studio or gym. With the Sweat with Melissa app, you can do an awesome, convenient Pilates workout or strength training session in as little as twenty-five minutes with a short class.

b.Pilates & Fitness is a One-Woman Show
My business is a home based, boutique-style studio. I love this set up that allows me to run classes and 1:1 sessions. Yet unlike a business with multiple instructors, I am only physically and mentally capable of teaching X number of hours a day. I have a family, and need to take care of my own fitness and health.
Being a tiny studio lets me give superior attention to my students, but it also makes classes more expensive than a big-box gym. I know that not everyone has the means to attend multiple in-studio classes a week, no matter how much they can benefit from Pilates or personal training.
On top of all that, to get all of the benefits of Pilates and strength training that’s critical to feel your best in all the other things you do, you really need to be training three to seven times a week. I don’t even teach seven days a week! This created a battle within myself, where I wanted to be there for my students every day. But I needed to be realistic with not only my own limitations, but theirs as well.
And so, Sweat with Melissa was born!

My goal with all of my running, riding, hiking, boxing, etc. is that I want to keep moving for years to come. It’s about feeling great for a long time. And that’s my goal for you, too.
