Wow! Life certainly has thrown us a curveball, hasn’t it? It seems that with each day there is a new development or change that we must adjust to. My daughter said that it feels like she is in a movie right now; life is feeling a bit unreal. With all of the health implications of COVID-19, it seems that there is no better time than now to take good care of ourselves.
Taking Care of Me Means Taking Care of You
As a fitness professional, it is my job to help you move well, build strength, and reduce pain; and I truly love what I do. That’s why it wasn’t hard for me to close my studio for the time being. Yes, hand washing, surface cleaning, and teaching only small groups with ample personal space could have allowed me to stay open. But my inner healer wouldn’t let me; it wouldn’t be worth it if anyone got sick or passed on the virus.
I miss my clients, teaching, and my reliable schedule. But this upheaval is an opportunity for us all to explore new ways of doing things, and I am trying to embrace it. I have even found a way to make my classes virtual, because self-care (exercising) can still help others (by inviting them to join me).
10 Ways I’m Taking Care of Myself Right Now
1. Continuing to Exercise Daily. Join me for a daily Pilates, Strength, and/or Metabolic workout that I will lead LIVE on Zoom. Join live so we can chat, or get the recorded workout to do later in the day.
Get the Zoom link on my Facebook or Instagram pages. You can also subscribe to my newsletter to get more goodness right to your inbox.
2. Working on Special Projects. With this gift of extra time, I am working on the b.Cross Training 6 Week Program for Runners, and updating my monthly subscription Mat Classes & Online Workouts.
3. Running & Walking Outside. We have had beautiful weather over the past few days, with more in the forecast. After an entire month of rain in January (literally), it feels great to be outside.
4. Feeding My Body Well. I’m not letting schedule changes derail my eating habits. Instead, I’m continuing to eat healthy, balanced meals and drink lots of water. My body and mind are happier when I do.
5. Enjoying More Family Time. My girls are all but grown up, and I am taking every moment I can to enjoy their company while they are still at home.
6. Dressing Up. I have mentioned this before, but workout wear is my usual outfit! Since I’m not teaching throughout the day now, it feels great to “dress up” in jeans or a casual dress.
7. Spring Cleaning. Today is the first day of Spring! Open the windows and let the fresh air in, or head out and get some yard work done. I’m doing both, and it feels amazing to get things organized.
8. Sleeping In. My schedule normally has me up and at ‘em pretty early, so I am sleeping in a little bit while I can.
9. Sitting in the Sun. Not every moment has to be productive; self-care can mean sitting back and just feeling the sun on my face.
10. I’m Having a (Virtual) Pilates Party! On April 18, Pilates instructor Lesley Logan and I are hosting a virtual pilates party. You get a workout, workshop, and Pilates party, all rolled into one. Learn more and sign up here.
Stay Social From A Distance
While we are all separated by bubbles of personal space, we can still be social from a distance – either outdoors or through virtual spaces. However you are choosing to take care of yourself in the coming days (or weeks), I am available if fitness is part of your plan.
