Last week I talked about what you need to bring to your first Pilates session. One of the things on that list was comfy, easy-to-move-in exercise clothing. Given my job, I pretty much live in this type of clothing, and I have tried many brands. I definitely have my favourites that I wear to Pilates, to workout, and everywhere in between.
My 5 Favourite Clothing Brands to Wear to Pilates Class
1. Segments (at Costco) I like this brand because it is so reliable! Every season they come out with a few options of pant, capri, skort, shorts, and a top. Ever-faithful black is always a choice, but they spice it up with a few patterns and solids as well. The pieces hold up very well, and thanks to Costco, the prices are very reasonable, too.
2. Nike Yes, this brand has staying power, and is one we all know. I have become pretty attached to my favourite fits and fabrics for my workout wear, and I have some Nike pieces that I absolutely adore. Still, I can go years without finding anything new that I like from this brand. They made my list, though, because my personal preference in style shouldn’t stop you from giving their products a try. The quality is definitely there, and the fit might be just right for you.
3. Lululemon You shouldn’t be surprised that they made my list, as Lululemon is my go-to for fitness wear. I wear their clothes because they design their pieces to be functional and comfortable, and I love the extra details that they add. I mean, why doesn’t ALL fitness wear have pockets for phones, keys, or gels for fuel while running? I have Lululemon items from ten years ago that are still in great shape, while I’ve worn out other pieces. I also love the variety of options in colour, fit, and style. There is something for every body and everybody.
4. Carbon 38 This LA-based company carries couture lines of workout and casual wear, as well as their own line. If you value style just as much as functionality, then Carbon 38 is for you. Their Takara Leggings are the bomb (just ask the internet!) They fit and feel amazing. You can shop online, or they have a few storefronts in the USA.
5. Daub + Design This is a local Vancouver company that hand dyes or hand prints all of their fabrics. She has expanded into an Active line, and continues to make the gorgeous Daub + Design Basics. I love the fit and feel of this brand, and feel good about supporting someone local. You can purchase online, or you can occasionally find her at markets or trade shows.
It is important to me to feel good – even when I am in my workout wear. My oldest daughter has the motto “look good, do good” for when she writes exams or goes to important interviews. There is something about how you carry yourself differently when you feel good inside AND out, whether it is a job interview or working out.
